Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED "ARKIE" JOHN JACOB WIENS Suddenly, on route home from Arizona, Arkie Wiens passed away in Fargo, ND on February 3, 2002. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Florence, his children, Dr. John Wiens and wife Barbara Warrack of Winnipeg and Dr. Debra Wiens and husband Dr. Rick Engman of Comox, BC. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, JJ and Colin Wiens and Athena and Freya Engman. He is survived by his brother Dr. Harold Wiens of Winnipeg and sister Nell Campbell of Ladysmith, BC. He was predeceased by his sister Elvira Giesbrecht of Morris, MB. Many extended family members, friends and business associates at home and around the world will miss his generous spirit and cheerful nature. Arkie was born on August 29, 1929 in Winkler, MB. After graduating from high school he joined his father in business and succeeded as the owner of Wiens and Son when his father passed away. On July 30, 1953 he married the love of his life, Florence Hamm. In 1967 Arkie moved the family into Winnipeg to embark on a new career. He graduated in 1972 as a Chartered Accountant and became a Trustee in Bankruptcy in 1978. He retired his partnership with the firm KPMG on April 30, 1990 and was immediately hired as Vice President of Finance for Triple E International in Winkler. He continued to do consulting work up until his death. Arkie was an active member of several service organizations including the Winkler Kinsman Club and the Fort Garry South Rotary. He was also the Treasurer of the Mennonite Mirror for many years. Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Arkies name to the Mennonite Central Committee. A viewing will take place on Thursday, February 7, at the Thompson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday February 9 at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., at 2:00 p.m. Wiebe Funeral Home Winkler in care of arrangements. 204-325-4201.
