PETRINA YANKECH Peacefully on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, with her family by her side, at Luther Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, Petrina Yankech, aged 87 years, formerly of Komarno, MB. Born June 26, 1914 in Kocurice, Slovakia, she came to Canada in 1938 and had resided and farmed at Komarno most of her life until moving to Winnipeg in 1998. Predeceased by her husband Gabriel in 1992; daughter Annie in 1947; son Steven in 1972; brother Anton in Slovakia. She is survived by her daughters, Emily Lohmer, Elaine (Bert) Olynyk; sons, John (Jean) Yankech, Joseph (Lois) Yankech, Richard (Marla) Yankech, Victor (Naty) Yankech, Benedict Yankech; 11 granddaughters, 10 grandsons, 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Apolena of Toronto, Sadie of Edmonton. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 9 at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Teulon. Rev. Fr. S. Gacek will officiate. Interment will follow at the Komarno Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Debra Lefebvre, Cheryl McDonald-Grover, Caroline Enberg, Lori Chartrand, Trina Herzog, Madelaine Yankech, Shellisa Yankech, Desiree Yankech. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, or to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg. The family wish to express their deepest gratitude to the caring staff and residents at Luther Home. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
