Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM CHASE February 21, 1909 - February 8, 2002 Bill was born in Milford, IA, in 1909, and moved to a farm in the Brunkild area with his parents and family in 1911. He attended Uplands and Sperling schools. As a young man during the depression, he worded for relatives in Iowa and New Mexico. He returned to the Brunkild area in the late thirties where he met Jean. They were married in July 27, 1942 and remained devoted to each other until Jeans death in 1999. They bought a farm, and the five Chase brothers farmed together west of Brunkild for 40 years. Gary was born in 1941, and enjoyed farming with his dad during his teens. Bill and Jean both were active contributors to the Brunkild community. Bill was a long-time secretary of Brunkild Pool Elevators, and was a skilled mediator at meetings where debates sometimes became heated. He also served on the Brunkild Hall board, and was always available elsewhere when required. A humble man he preferred to serve in the background. Although not an athlete, Bill really enjoyed the fellowship of curling, and was a member of the Brunkild Curling Club for many years. A curling highlight was his trip to Sioux Lookout to curl with Gary in a bonspiel in 1956. In 1980, Bill and Jean sold the farm and retired to Carman where they made many friends, the most special being Freeman and Dorothy Lucking, and Ron Nichol. Bill bowled until age 91. Bill considered himself very fortunate for the enjoyable life he had. He enjoyed farming, considered marrying Jean the best move I ever made, and was proud of his family. He is survived by his son Gary (Dianne) granddaughter Darla Forbes (Mike) grandson Rick (Dawn), and his recent joy, great-granddaughter Madeline Forbes. Bill was a great storyteller, much appreciated by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Jean; his parents; brothers, Jim, Hal, Art and Don; and sisters, Marie Williams, Margaret Smith, and Dorothy Chase. Gary would like to express a special thanks to the Carman Hospital nursing staff who gave Bill excellent care during his last six weeks spent there. Also to his faithful visitors, Dorothy Lucking and Ron Nichol. Funeral service will be held from the Carman United Church in Carman on February 13 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating, with viewing prior to the service. Interment will take place in Garry Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Box 1932, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R2. Doyle Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements.
