GORDON EARLE PAYNE With little warning, Gordon passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in Victoria, BC at the age of 85. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Vivian; daughter Georgie Ann Frye (John) and grandchildren, Konrad and Keith of Winnipeg; step-son Bev Young (Gwen) and grandchildren, Lisa and Brian (Kristin) of Victoria, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Clare, his former wife Audrey, his parents and three brothers. Gordon was born in Plumas, MB July 16, 1916 where he spent his early years prior to moving with his family to Oakville, MB. After high school, he was employed by the Oakville Co-op, then Federated Co-op in Oakville and Minnedosa, and Red River Co-op in Winnipeg, a career spanning 30 years. Following that, he embarked on another 30 years with Investors Syndicate in Winnipeg and Victoria. A true competitor and avid fan, Gordon loved sports. Through the years he especially enjoyed curling, golf, horseshoes, a good game of bridge and, of course, the remote control. He was the family organizer and enjoyed so many wonderful times with his family and friends. We will all miss his ready smile, keen sense of humour and love of life. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Gord. "Whoever will take charge now?" The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors and staff at Victoria General Hospital and the emergency crew for their care and compassion. Celebration of Gordons life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra St., Victoria, BC on Saturday, February 9 at 2:30 p.m. (sharp). Cremation with inurnment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1-947 Fort St., Victoria, BC, V8V 3K3 in Gordons memory would be appreciated.
