Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHARINA TOEWS (nee HESSE) With sadness, we announce the death of Katharina Toews, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2002 at Bethania Personal Care Home at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by Rev. Jacob Toews, her husband of 61 years. She was born Katharina Hesse on February 3, 1907 in Lichtenau, South Russia to Caroline and Karl Hesse. Upon the death of her mother, she was adopted by Johann Warkentin in 1908. In June 1924, she immigrated to Canada, landing in Montreal, and lived in several locations in Ontario and Manitoba before moving to Grunthal in 1928. In 1936, she married Jacob Toews. Katies smile will be missed by many. She leaves to mourn six children, Agnes (Abe) of Regina, Anne of Winnipeg, Jack (Uli) of Winnipeg, John (Norma) of Toronto, Henry (Linda) of Toronto and Dorothy (Ron) of Winnipeg. She leaves fond memories with her grandchildren Randy, Joanne, Deanna, Brenda and Allison She was sad that she never had the opportunity to forge relationships with her six great-grandchildren as she had much patience and time for children. The family wishes to acknowledge the nursing staff at Bethania Personal Care Home: they are truly angels of mercy and afforded Mom much comfort and solace. Special thanks to Rosalie Loeppky and Gerhardt Friesen for often sharing a kind word or inspirational message with Mom to make her days lighter. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:15 p.m. at Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Avenue with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bethania Personal Care Home, or the charity of choice are gratefully appreciated.
