Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAY SEMKIW (nee KOLODY) Born July 10, 1914 in Meleb, MB and passed away February 11, 2002 in Winnipeg, MB. She leaves her dearest husband of 67 years, John; sisters, Rose Semkiw (Tony), Olga Iwaniuk, Tillie Rogowski and Jean Ciastko; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Kay was predeceased by by her parents, Paul and Anna (Kushnir) Kolody; brother John; sisters, Mary Dragan, Helen Capar, Stella Tkach and Lena Jawdeck. When Kays mother passed away in 1933 at a young age, Kay assumed the responsibility of caring for her siblings, providing family meals amongst other responsibilities that her mother had. These responsibilities remained until Kay married in 1935. When Kay and John moved to Toronto in 1944 she was owner and managed a restaurant and a grocery store. They then moved to Russell, MB in 1949 where she and John owned and operated the Russell Hotel. Upon their retirement John and Kay moved back to Toronto. They spent many years together enjoying their cottage and many trips to Hawaii. Prayers will be said on Tuesday (tonight), February 12, at 6:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 13, at 10:00 a.m., also at Cropo Chapel, with Rev. Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her nephews. A special thanks to the caring staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Deer Lodge Hospital (3 East) and St. Josephs Residence.
