Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELLIE NYKOLUK Our dear mother, Nellie Nykoluk, died peacefully on February 12, 2002 at the Health Sciences Centre. Nellie was born in the Ethelbert area on September 29, 1909 to Nikola and Barbara Noga. In 1932, she and Tony were married and resided in Transcona for the rest of their lives to work and raise a family. Mother will be greatly missed by her daughter, Beverly Armishaw; sons, Bill (Joyce), Jim (Brenda) and sisters, Helen Phillip, Elsie (Hugh) Wright and Rose Randall. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Brian (Shawn), Tim, Laurie, Chris and David and her great-grandchildren, Crystal, Danielle, Thomas, Heather and Colby. She was predeceased by her husband Tony and her grandson Peter. Growing up with the challenge of pioneering and raising a young family during the Depression helped shape her resolve to overcome adversity. Strength of will and spirit, unselfishness, hard work, independence and resourcefulness characterized her life. She was a wonderful wife and mother who created a home environment of love, caring and security. Her skills at cooking, sewing and homemaking were exceptional. Nellies generosity extended to other family and friends whom she helped and touched in meaningful ways. As her family grew up, mother took a keen interest in social and political affairs and could get to the heart of issues. She held some strong views on how to make the community and country a better place in which to live. However, it was children who were her priority and she had a wonderful way to demonstrate understanding and unconditional love to them. During her lifetime, she was involved with the community of Transcona and was a member of St. Georges Anglican Church and Confidence Rebekah Lodge. The summer cottage at Rice Lake, ON provided for memorable experiences and many close friendships. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. with Rev. Victoria Shaw officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot, Transcona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Brian, David, Chris, Laurie, Tim and family friend, Ken Dublin. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Georges Anglican Church or to a charity of choice. When the fight for life is won And the Master says "Well done." Jesus grant her perfect peace And rest forever more. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
