HARRIE HOITINK Peacefully, on Thursday February 14, 2002, with his family at his side, Harrie Hoitink, aged 46, beloved husband of Cindy Walker and devoted father of Michael, Paul, Melyssa, and David, lost his hard fought battle against cancer. Also left to cherish his memory, are brother Tony (wife Judy - Brent, Kevin, and Ashley) sisters, Wilhmien Duffy (husband Russ - Alana and Steven), and Lucie Hoitink. He also leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Joan Walker (Ian and Andrea), Linda and Rocky Hill (Ryan and Scott), Karen and Walter Berg, Michael and Connie Walker (Matthew and Steven), and mother-in-law Joy Walker. He was predeceased by his father John and mother Maria (Ribbers). He also leaves to mourn many relatives, both in Canada and Holland, and friends. Harrie was born in Winnipeg on January 16, 1956. The family moved first to Marchand, and then to the family farm near St. Anne. Since graduating from Red River College he has resided in Winnipeg, where for the past 22 years he was employed with the City of Winnipeg Streets and Maintenance Department. He leaves behind many good friends there, having left work due to illness in October 1999. Harrie was a loving husband and father who especially relished time with his family and friends at their cottage on the Winnipeg River. He enjoyed many outdoor activities with his children and friends. Harrie was always willing to lend a helping hand to all. Thank you to Kenora General Hospital; Harries personal physician Dr. Steven Coyle; Oncologist Dr. Garry Schroeder and assistant Kim Paradoski from the HSC Cancer Unit; Dr. John Sampson and the team at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina; and the compassionate care of the staff at Riverview Health Centre (3 East). Cindy would also like to thank her friends and co-workers at Winnipeg School Division No. 1 Child Guidance Clinic and the St. Vital School Division, who have been a constant source of support. In accordance with Harries wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Parish, 2400 Portage Ave., with the Rev.
