Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA ETTA NICHOL Peacefully, on February 13, 2002, after a courageously fought battle with cancer and surrounded by her loving family, Vera Nichol passed away. Funeral service will be held in the MacGregor United Church on Sunday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Quentin Robinson officiating. Interment of the cremated remains in Evergreen Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date. Vera was born April 19, 1919 at Reston, MB to Thomas and Margaret Phillips. The family moved to the Image Creek District where she was raised and received her education. On July 2, 1938 she married Bert Nichol and they farmed the Phillips farm which they eventually purchased. Here she raised her family of two daughters and one son. Vera was active on the farm and worked alongside her husband for many years. In 1976 they retired and moved to reside in Portage before moving to Abbotsford, BC, where they lived for 16 years. Vera and Bert would drive back from Abbotsford each season to continue to be actively involved in the family farm. They moved back to MacGregor in 1997 to be close to family and friends. Vera was a member of the United Church, both at Beaver and MacGregor and was an active member of the UCW, with the MacGregor Hospital Aid and as a 4-H leader. During the winter months she kept busy with curling, knitting, quilting and sewing. She was always there to help Bert with seeding and harvest. Vera enjoyed being in the outdoors and loved to see birds and wildlife. Her kitchen was always open and she could produce an array of baking for tea in a moment. Veras biscuits are a legend. Her favourite times were with her family, especially her grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents and an infant brother Harold Keith, she leaves to mourn her passing her husband Bert; daughter Myrna (Roger) West of Comox, BC; grandchildren, Dawn and Grant (Donna) daughter Lynda (Rick) Palmer of Winnipeg; grandchildren Laurie (Raul) and Jeff (Nikki) son Keith (Kathy) of Bagot; grandchildren, Jillian, Kolby and Klay. Also surviving are brother Lorne Phillips of Portage la Prairie; sister Shirley Schwartz of St. Albert, AB; and many nieces and nephews. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to MacGregor Health Foundation Inc. The Omega Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Friends may leave a message and sign the register book at our web site www.legacy.com "Where life stories live on." Do not stand at may grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight upon ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awake in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not dead, I did not die, Ill be waiting for you in the sky.
