JOHN VAN HELLEMOND 1909 - 2002 Peacefully on February 14, Dad passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre. He is survived by one daughter Joan Norquay, husband Wally of Winnipeg; three sons, Jack, wife Audrey, also of Winnipeg, Andy, wife Cheryl of Guelph, ON, and Bruce, wife Arlene of Castlegar, BC. Grandpa will be lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dad is also survived by one brother and five sisters living in the Netherlands. He was predeceased by Mom, Agatha, in 1983 after 51 years of marriage. Dad was born on January 25, 1909 in Hilversum, Holland, second oldest of 13 children. He came to Canada at the age of 20, marrying Mom three years later. After working on various dairy farms in Western Canada, he settled in Winnipeg and worked 19 years for Crescent Creamery and 21 years for the M.L.C.C. retiring in 1974. Dad was a hard working, caring person who enjoyed life to the fullest. Besides being with his family, he relished the many friends he had with the early Dutch and Scottish soccer teams of Winnipeg, and at the Thistle Curling Club where he was a member for 50 years and President in 1952. One of his biggest thrills occurred in 1960 when, with Mom he went back to Holland for the first time in 30 years to see his 12 brothers and sisters, some for the very first time. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Deer Lodge T3 Unit for their outstanding care and affection for the last two and one-half years. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to T3 Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3 or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Wojciks Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements - 897 - 4665.
