Date of Passing: Feb 14, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR PELSER March 29, 1923 - February 14, 2002 With his sons at his side, our beloved husband, father and grandfather was embraced by the Lord on Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the age of 78 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Art is survived by his wife of 51 years, Olavia (nee Thorsteinson) sons, Randy (Leslie) and Kerry (Liann) grandchildren, Heather, Laura and Eric; brother Leonard (Anne) sisters, Lillian, Esther (John) Elias of Winkler and Ruth (Abe) Hildebrand of British Columbia and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special four-legged friend "little Cindy" who was a great comfort to him during his last days at home, and Sparkey and Hayley. Art was predeceased by his father Julius; mother Katharine and brother Eric. Dad was born on March 29, 1923 in Winkler, MB where he was raised and received his education. In 1943, Art proudly and voluntarily enlisted to serve his country during the Second World War. He served with the Royal Canadian Artillery and he saw service in Italy, Belgium and Holland. Upon returning to civilian life Art enrolled in business courses and began a career in the insurance industry becoming an Agency Manager, a position he held for many years. Having travelled a great deal during his earlier years, Dad was happy to stay close to home in his retirement enjoying the simpler pleasures in life. Dad loved and respected nature, and had a real passion for gardening. The greatest joy of his retirement was the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. Dad lived his life with honesty, sincerity, generosity and forgiveness. He showed respect for others and was always willing to put their needs before his own. In keeping with Arts wishes, cremation has taken place and a service in celebration of his life was held at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church, 160 Smithfield Ave. with family and friends. Interment at Husavik Cemetery will be at a later date. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Unit 3, 5th Floor, Seven Oaks Hospital, for their compassion and care during Dads last few days with us. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of ones choice. Though scornful billows rage and roar, And crash against a timid shore, The coast-bound rocks are heaved on high Unto a pitch dark bursting sky. However gruesome be the skies, Whatever tempests chance to rise, Ill take the wheel and sail the sea, While still a spark of lifes in me. - Olafur E. Briem Arrangements were entrusted to: NEIL BARDAL 984 Portage Avenue at Aubrey Winnipeg, Manitoba
