He is lovingly remembered and will be sadly missed by his best friend and wife Elsie of 55 years; also four children and their families: daughter Elaine Kaatz (Ray), son Harvey (friend Paula), son Ron (Janice), and son Robert (Olga) grandchildren, Kelly Hastman (friend Francois), Tammy Neish (David), Chad Kaatz (Mollie), Dana Naismith (Ryan), Jessica and Rachel Hastman. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Gottlieb Hastman; four brothers, John, Otto, Paul and Herman; and four sisters, Helen, Amanda, Edith and Anna. Dad was born January 10, 1919 in Golden Bay. He married Mom in 1947 and together they farmed for 40 years. In 1986, they moved to Beausejour, where Dad enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He enjoyed talking to people and could be found most mornings with his buddies at Chicken Delight. Dad took great pleasure in his tours (as he would call them) through the countryside. He loved gardening, making sure his potatoes were always hilled. He enjoyed picking berries and creating his wonderful wooden treasures for all of us. He lived for his children and grandchildren. Dad will be remembered for his special sense of humour, his original one-liners and his enjoyment of practical jokes. Well miss his hearty laughter. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the exceptional nurses and support staff for their care and compassion during Dads recent stay at the Beausejour Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Beausejour, with Pastor Dale Berg officiating. Interment will follow at the Beausejour Town Cemetery. Friends may view on Tuesday until 9:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Dad You raised us and taught us the things we needed to learn, You kept us feeling safe and loved with all your warm concern. Youve been a source of faith and hope to us our whole lives through And we feel blessed and grateful to have had a dad like you. Your memory will live on in us forever.
