MAE JOHANNSON Peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2002 with her family at her side, Mae Johannson, aged 82 years, passed away at the Betel Home in Selkirk. She was predeceased by her daughter Karen in 1991, her brother Hugh, and sisters, Edith, Alice and Anne. Mae will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving husband of 63 years Gunnar, daughters, Bunnie (Ron) Hutchinson of Kelowna, and Brenda Johannson of Selkirk; son Ron (Marilyn) Johannson of Vancouver; sisters, Iris (Glen) Lawson, Shirley (Morris) Romanoff, and Laura Munson, all of Winnipeg, and Mardi Hodgson, also a resident of Betel Home; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Born in 1919, Mae grew up in Selkirk until she married Gunnar in 1938 and moved to Gods Lake. There they resided until moving to Flin Flon, then later Snow Lake, finally coming full circle to retire in Selkirk. Besides raising her family of four, Mae was active in the Lutheran Church, choirs, Glee Club, Womens Auxiliary, White Cross of Flin Flon, and teaching ceramics. She and Gunnar devoted a major portion of their lives caring for their daughter Karen, who suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. Their door was always open to the many friends, neighbours, and family members who loved the warmth of their company. For the past four years, Mae had been a resident of the Betel Home where she and Gunnar still treasured their daily visits. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Maes family wishes to sincerely thank all of the Betel Home staff and Dr. Demsas for all the tender loving care she received from them. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. "To live in hearts that are left behind is not to die." Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
