Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) BRUCE MacNEILL Peacefully on February 17, 2002 at the Riverview Health Centre, Bob passed away at the age of 86. He was predeceased in 1998 by Helen his beloved wife of 58 years, and his son Tim (1998). His family, son Bruce and wife Glad, granddaughter Karen (husband Mike), great-granddaughter Caleigh; son John and wife Jacqui, grandson Cooper and granddaughters, Amanda and Raleigh will lovingly cherish his memory. Bob was born in Winnipeg on August 24, 1915 at the family home, 606 Gertrude Ave., the youngest of three sons. He grew up excelling at various sports, and winning Manitoba Championships in skating, diving and swimming. He remembered with particular fondness the Winnipeg Winter Club who supported his athletic accomplishments. He felt a great sense of satisfaction in serving as the president of that club at a later time in his life. After graduating from Business College he began working at Canada Packers. On May 4, 1940 he married Helen Gertrude Cameron. They spent 8 months together prior to his posting overseas to serve his country in the Second World War. He always felt that the period of 1940 to 1946 was a time of his life that he looked back on with particular pride and satisfaction. He enlisted as a volunteer Private and rose to the rank of acting Lieutenant Colonel by the end of the war. After the war he returned to Winnipeg to resume his life. As well as working, he was active in many varied community activities including the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Football Club where he enjoyed many years on the executive. He also served as an elder at Westminster United Church where he remained a member until his death. The main focus in his life was always his wife and family. Family summers were spent at White Rock Island, Clearwater Bay, ON. He loved all aspects of cottage life. We will all remember the importance that he placed on family. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Victoria General Hospital, The Portsmouth Retirement Residence and Home Care for all their dedicated care and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobs memory to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation Inc., 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22 at Westminster United Church, Maryland and Westminster Avenue with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
