JOHNSON (PAPA) On February 19, 2002 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Fred Johnson, aged 61 years of Camp Morton and formerly of Winnipeg. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Dori and Margaret and leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 43 years, Denise; three sons, Darrell (Leanne) of Mundare, AB and Derrick (Rhonda) and Gregory (Michelle), both of Winnipeg and five granddaughters, Fahlin, Shawna, Courtney, Chelsea and Lindsey. He will also be remembered by "SPECIAL MOM JOSIE" and Cathy Phillips, as well as numerous friends and relatives. Fred was born in Riverton on January 5, 1941. He later moved to Winnipeg where he lived until retiring back to Camp Morton four and a half years ago. Fred had worked at the DEW Line for seven years and then spent 21 years with Manitoba Housing, retiring in 1997. During his retirement years he worked as a senior consultant with Saber Industries. Freds first love was his family and five precious granddaughters and he cherished the times spent together. He enjoyed many winters at Birch Bay and summers spent at the farm, where he maintained his "park". He loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching all the wildlife. He was an avid Philadelphia Flyer fan and one of Papas famous quotes was "we were only a goalie away from the Stanley Cup". Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli with Major Gordon Jarvis officiating. Interment will follow in the Husavick Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilfred Pitz, Howard Wilkins, Bill McDuffe, Robert Lytell, John Gibson, Gord Kizuik and Tony Small. Active pallbearers will be Kelly and Norman Johnson, Bill Arvidson, Marshall Pitz and Jim and Robert Walld. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Grace Oncology Department, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7 or a charity of choice. Special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris, Major Gordon Jarvis, Kathy Wolos and all the nursing staff on 4 South. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, in care of arrangements.
