Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH WALKER BUTCHARD March 31, 1919 - February 23, 2002 Peacefully, on February 23, 2002, Joe Butchard passed away. Joe was the only child of Charles Thomas and Alice May Butchard. Joe leaves behind his cherished wife of 58 years, Grace Marguerite Butchard (nee Bell) his three children, Elaine Robertson, Lenore Butchard, Neil Butchard; daughter-in-law Pam Butchard; his five grandchildren, Krista and Jonathan Butchard, Christine Byczkowsky, Lorraine and Heather Robertson and his two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Maksym Byckzowsky. Joe grew up in Winnipegs north end at 139 Bannerman and from an early age he was curious about how anything and everything worked. His fascination with electronics led him to become an amateur radio operator (VE4NY) in 1935. Over the years he developed the skill of being able to build or repair anything. He shared this skill, helping countless people throughout his life, repairing and building everything from TVs to dollhouses. On December 4, 1945 he married the true love of his life, Grace Marguerite Bell. By 1946, they, along with the help of Robert Bell, built their first house at 39 Mortimer Place and began to raise their family. Joe had a long and fruitful career at the Manitoba Telephone System, rising to the position of General Plant Manager before his retirement in 1975. Joes determination, curiosity, sense of humour and love of life lives on in all those whose lives he touched. A private interment will be followed by a public reception in honour of his life in the Chalfont room at the Wellington, 3161 Grant Ave., on Wednesday, February 27, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in Joes name may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P9, or the charity of their choice. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the staff of 3E, RVHC for their compassion and support. Joe - Forever in my heart, Grace. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
