Born: Oct 29, 1921
Date of Passing: Feb 20, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDANIEL LEOPOLD SCHNELL On February 20, 2002 at the Concordia General Hospital, Daniel Schnell passed away at the age of 80 years. Left to forever cherish his memory is his most beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothea; and his sons, Donald (Betty), Douglas (Judy), and Mic (Cliff) as well as grandchildren, Rhonda Funk (Gordon), Geoffrey, Geordie and David; and great-grandchildren, Alexander and Nikolas. Daniel was predeceased by his parents, Leopold and Susanna Schnell, as well as four of his siblings, Caroline, Gabriel, Jacob and Joseph, and is survived by his siblings, Adolphine Davidson, Emma Davidson, Wilfred and Ernest, and many nieces and nephews. Daniel was born on October 29, 1921 near Overstone, MB, later moving to and growing up near Dominion City on the familys new farmstead. He enlisted in Canadas military armed forces during the Second World War during which time he met and married Dorothea on December 19, 1944 before going overseas. He returned from the war to his bride and their first newborn son, Donald. Their second son, Douglas, was born a couple of years later, followed by the arrival of their third son, Mic, several years afterward. Among other jobs, Daniel proudly worked for most of his career for the Manitoba Civil Service until his early retirement due to health reasons at the age of 60 years. Daniel was also a lifetime member of the Fort Rouge Legion Branch No. 97 where he served in multiple capacities. Daniel and Dorothea had a life filled with great unsurpassed love for many years and truly enjoyed one another completely. They loved their sons, their family, music and dancing, large family gatherings, camping and bingo. Their retirement years were spent happily as they summered in their leisure trailer near Portage la Prairie and in the latter years on Mic and Cliffs farm near Komarno. Although Daniel and Dorothea had always lived in Winnipeg, coming back to the country did his heart good! It became an especially important home away from home for Daniel, particularly following the overwhelming and tragic onset of Alzheimers Disease with which Dorothea suffers. Daniel and Dorothea have been and continue to be two halves of the same whole and although now physically separated between "the here and the after" they will never be apart, but forever remain together as they were always meant to be. In this their loved ones and friends may always take comfort. Visitation is planned for Tuesday, February 26 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 27 at 12:30 p.m., same location. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
