ELDON "ELDIE" WILLIAM McRAE It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dad, after a brief illness on Thursday, February 21, 2002, with his family at his side at Seven Oaks Hospital. Predeceased by his loving wife Lucille in 1979; mother Rosa (Sutherland) father William; son-in-law Fred Slater and two sons at infancy. Dad was born November 3, 1925 at Muckles Creek, Clandeboye, great-grandson of Duncan McRae, Stonemason, Hudson Bay Company. He attended Fillmore and Clandeboye Schools. He joined the military in 1943 and was in training in Halifax when the war ended. He was proud to be a member of Branch #42 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Selkirk. He encouraged and took great pride in knowing that all his children became members. He was a farmer all of his life and retired from the Manitoba Rolling Mills in 1989. Dad had a real love of nature and his favourite season was the springtime. He enjoyed his retirement years gardening and wine making with his good friend Bob Muckle and fishing, hunting and feeding the birds with his good friend Potts McCarthy. Dad was a caring man who gave unselfishly to everyone. Eldie leaves to cherish his memory, his partner and caregiver Myrtle and her family; his children, Edie (Tye), Brenda (Don), Myrna (Kent), Eldon (Barbara), Gary (Debbie), David (Leigh) and Terry (Linda). His grandchildren, Jeff and Jonathan Slater, Ken, Kerry, Paul McRae, Erin and Amber McRae, Duncan, Wesley and Jeremy McRae and Craig McRae; his great-grandchildren, Keagan and Ryan McRae; his brother Leslie (Marguerite) and family; and his faithful dog "Socks." His family would like to thank Dr. Benny Lei and the staff of U3 especially nurses Trinity and Betty at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made direct to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9, or to the charity of your choice. Beautiful memories are wonderful things, They last until the longest day, They never wear out, They never get lost, And can never be given away. To some you may be forgotten, To others a part of the past, But to us, who loved you, Your memories will always last. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
