DAVID GEORGE GLENHOLME GARRITY -
Date of Passing: Feb 19, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID GEORGE GLENHOLME GARRITY 1939 - 2002 We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved husband and father. He died quietly in his sleep at home on February 19. His truly courageous nine year battle with an ever more disabling brain tumour is at an end. We are thankful for that, but sad that his powerful presence is no longer with us. He leaves wonderful memories for his wife Pat (nee McIntee), his sons, Sean and Michael; his daughter Erin; their partners, Yumi, Jennifer and Jeff; from Ontario his sisters, Jane, Judy and Mary Kay; and their husbands Jim Couch, Merv Bolton and Paul Marshall; their children and grandchildren; and his brother Tom Garrity, wife Betty and their two sons. His two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Kathleen and Frank Sobkowicz of Winnipeg and their children, Andrew and Lauren and Trudy and Bill Millar of Kenora and their children and grandchildren will sorely miss him. He will be fondly remembered by many wonderful friends and coworkers. David grew up in Ontario, oldest son of Kay and Glen Garrity (both deceased). He completed his high school education in Parry Sound, ON, went on to North Bay Teachers College where he was Valedictorian and where he met his wife Pat. He won many awards in cadets as best cadet in his battalion and his company. He completed his B.A., B.Ed and M.Ed. at the University of Manitoba. He spent seven years teaching in the Arctic, four years in Rivers, MB, one year in Parry Sound, one year in Norwood School Division and the rest of his career in St. Boniface School Division where he was a counsellor, a resource teacher and a teacher of gifted education. He taught courses also at the University of Manitoba and gave many in-services around the province. He was a well-loved and skilled educator. His quick wit and intelligence, his patience and understanding, his energy and strength and his great love for life and people, will leave a void in all our lives. Thanks to his caring doctors, Dr. Bourque and Dr. McCammon, to his V.O.N. Louise Dansereau and to his hospice worker Norma Horrocks. The family is overwhelmed by the kindness of relatives, friends, neighbours and coworkers. Thank you all for your support. A private family celebration will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Davids memory to the Salvation Army and their wonderful work with the needy. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
