Born: Nov 28, 1916
Date of Passing: Feb 21, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLIFFORD (CHUM) NORMAN MACEY Peacefully on February 21, 2002 at Deer Lodge Centre, surrounded by his loving family Clifford (Chum) Macey, aged 85 years young, passed away. Chum was predeceased by his first wife Christine (nee Weatherhead), his parents, Charles and Isabella; sisters, Noreen, Alice, Ruth, and Isabel; brothers, Reginald, Dads twin Charles, Joe, Percy, Merritt and Herbert. He is survived by his beloved wife Doris (nee Johnson), his daughters, Diane Kastes (Kirk), and Evelyn Butterworth (Don) and sons, Christopher (Darlene), Donald (Frances), Richard Macey, Glen and Donald (Dianne) Critchley. He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Nixon and Jean McLean, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chum was born on November 28, 1916 in Minnedosa, MB. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. Chummy had a big bark and an even bigger heart. A charismatic man, he always had a smile for those he loved. In his younger days he was a well-known boxer and a member of the Lord Strathconas Horse (Royal Canadians). Chum served in the Second World War from 1939 through 1945 and received the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for valour during the Battle at the Melfa River. Two weeks before the end of the war Chum lost his leg in battle but it never slowed him down. He was an active gardener, a swimmer, a dancer extraordinaire, and man could he skip-he was still a boxer at heart. When he returned from the war, he was an active and long serving member of the War Amputations of Canada. He was employed by the Federal Government until 1974. He met his beloved wife Doris in 1973, married her in 1974, and enjoyed life with his loving expanded family. "Gramps" will be fondly remembered, by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, for his generous heart, his secret handshake (ouch!) and ever-present smile. He was a generous man and was always the first to help anyone in need. The family would like to thank the staff on T3 at the Deer Lodge Centre. Their kindness and loving care over the last ten years has been greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Wednesday, February 27 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Chums memory to the Alzheimers Society of Winnipeg, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."
