MARIA WODCHYC On February 24, 2002, Maria Wodchyc, originally of Belorussia, left us to be with God and her beloved husband, Andrew. She is at peace now with her parents, Alexander and Anatonia Loyko and the brothers and sisters that had gone before. She leaves behind her sister Nadia Orlova, in Russia; son Peter (Linda) daughter Mary (Terry) granddaughters, Charlene and Kellie, Tania (John), Andrea and Kristin (Gavin). She will also be missed by her cousin Sally Loyko of Hamilton; Peters step-daughters, Becky and Mandy, and her many friends. Maria and Andrew married in Huxter, Germany in 1948, before traveling to Canada. They settled in Winnipeg near Andrews brother, Joseph (now deceased) and his family. They had a good life with their family and many friends in Old Kildonan for 30 years. Maria was an active member of the Holy Trinity Russian Greek Orthodox Church. She added her strong, rich voice to their choir and honed her perogy and holopchi making skills with the ladies of the parish. After she got a drivers license, at the age of 54, she became a willing ride for parishioners who couldnt get around very well. She was also a member of various seniors organizations in the North End. She was employed at Progressive Manufacturing, where she worked until she retired at the age of 65. Retirement gave her more time to help Peter look after his daughters and pursue her various interests. Maria always had to keep busy. Along with her flourishing vegetables, she raised beautiful flowers about her residences on Murray Road and later at her apartment on Burrows Avenue. Her living room window had always been a jungle of greenery. She had plenty of plants of her own, and people constantly brought their sickly plants to Manya, who would have them thriving in no time. Her magic fingers also created clothing at her old Singer Treadle Machine; magnificent doilies and table cloths with her never-ending supply of crochet hooks; cozy sweaters and afghans for us all with her flying knitting needles; and beautiful embroidered art to grace the walls of most of the people she knew. Prayers will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m. a Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with funeral service on Friday, March 1 at 9:00 a.m. also at the Chapel with Rev. Fr. Robert Kennaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Mom - Baba - Manya, we will miss you always, but know you were tired and it was time to go. We are all honoured to have known you and are grateful we were able to learn what you had to each us. Good-bye. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
