THOMAS DOUGLAS "DOUG" JOHNSTON Thomas Douglas "Doug" Johnston of Halifax passed away at home Monday, February 25, 2002 on the day his mother was laid to rest. Born in Halifax August 9, 1960 he was the youngest son of the late William H. and Catherine M. Johnston. He is survived by nine brothers, Allen, Halifax; Bill (Colleen), Halifax; Bob, Toronto, ON; Art (Shirley), Calgary; Don (Heather), Halifax; Wilfred (Liz), Brockville, ON; David (Phyllis), Quispamsis, NB; Ian, Richard, Halifax; sisters, Marilyn Redmond, Calgary, AB; Grace Proulx, Saskatchewan; Debbie (Wayne) Ramsay, Mount Uniacke; Carolyn (Ross) Bruce, Bedford; 47 nieces and nephews, 39 great nieces and nephews and cousin Mary Garnier. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his grandparents, Edward "Ned" and Catherine Blackburn and Daniel and Caroline Johnston; oldest brother Edward "Ted" William Johnston and one nephew Richard Johnston. Doug was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and then went on to work for Canadian National Railway as a brakeman in Winnipeg, later working with Wilmar Glass Company of Winnipeg. Upon returning to Halifax he was employed by the Canadian Corps. of Commissionaires NS Division as a corporal at the Rainbow Gate at the Dockyard. Visitation will be held Wednesday 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday March 1 in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax.
