SAUL MANUEL WISEMAN O.D. 1925 - 2002 Saul Manuel Wiseman passed away suddenly while vacationing in Naples, Florida, with his wife Elaine. He is survived by four sons, Howard (Aviva), Gordon, Ron, Robert, and precious grand-daughter Avia. In addition, he is survived by his sister Mona Sherman of Portland, Oregon, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ray Winston; many nieces and nephews including Francine Reingold (Jeff), Mark Sherman (Lily), David Sherman (Anne), Richard Winston (Rhonda), Dr. Phyllis Bedder (Wayne Leach), Gail Kendall (Tom). He was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Rochel Wiseman, and his brother-in-law Louis Sherman. Also predeceased by in-laws, Rose and Herb Winston. After serving in the Canadian Air Force, Dr. Wiseman graduated from the University of Toronto (optometry) in 1948. For 30 years he owned and managed Strains Cameras, a Winnipeg landmark. In 1983, Mannie returned to his original field of optometry and started what would become a thriving practice at Polo Park. he had a genuine love for his work, his associates and the variety of people who came into his life daily as patients. Over the years he served on the boards of many organizations including Hillel at the University of Manitoba campus, Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith, Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and the Hebrew University. Mannie attended the Asper Centre regularly and tried never to miss one of Bennys "A.K." classes. Always the "eternal optimist ... he took life on with an enthusiasm that was catching to all who knew him. His loss will be felt by family and friends of all ages. "So much love in your eyes and a smile that understood eternity" The funeral was held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Wednesday, February 20 and burial was at the Shaarey Zedek Memorial grounds on Main St. Pallbearers were Richard Winston, Lorne Colish, Mark Sherman, Neil Charach, Jonathan Bedder and David Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Winston, Wayne Leach, Manuel Thompson, Dr. Ean Battel, Dr. Harry Tregobov, Dr. Dan Waterman and Larry Hecht.
