L. A. "VERNE" SEARLE November 1909 - February 2002 After a short illness, at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe Claire, QC, Laverne Searle, died on Friday, February 22, 2002. Born and raised on the prairies, Verne moved his family to Flin Flon in 1944 where he lived until shortly after the death of Margaret (nee Ashley) in 1974. His second wife Winifred (nee Bunnaman) predeceased Verne in October 2001. Survivors include his brother Russell of Cobble Hill, BC; sons, Russell (Doris Christianson) of Wasaga Beach, ON, James (Helen Gilchrist) of Winnipeg and Douglas of Delta, BC; daughter-in-law Maxine Searle (Silverthorne) of Vancouver, BC; and step-daughters, Verna Lunny (Jack) of Florida and Virginia (Raymond) Belanger of Beaconsfield. Grandchildren, Karen Ashley, Erik and Dawn Searle as well as Diane and Nicole Belanger, Beverly, Jack, Elizabeth, Diane and Jennifer Lunny and twelve nieces and nephews from across Canada enjoyed Vernes jokes and yarns about life on the prairies or in the mine. The four Searle great-grandchildren are too young to have heard Grandpas stories but a multitude of step-great-grandchildren have had the pleasure of his company. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held. The family respectfully declines flowers but knows that memorial donations would be welcomed by the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or any other charity of choice.

I only met Gramps a few times but in the short time I knew him he had accepted me and my family as his own. I remember him being a great man, always full of stories and laughs. I am currently making a family tree and I'm pleased to have come across this information. R.I.P Gramps. - Posted by: Stephanie Lunny (Step Great Granddaughter ) on: May 03, 2014
