NETTIE LEWANDIWSKY 1917 - 2002 On Sunday, March 3, 2002 Nettie Lewandiwsky suddenly but peacefully passed away at her home in Sundown, MB. She will be greatly missed and remembered with love by her daughter Elizabeth (Martin) Hirschfield of Lac du Bonnet; son Wally (Juney) Happychuk of Vita;stepson Bob (Jackie) Lewandiwsky of The Pas;stepson Jerry Lewandiwsky of Edmonton; grand-children, Bob (Marilyn), Ronnie, Harvey (Sherry), Ryan, Crystal, Dano and Gina; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Melissa, Kyle and Kevin, and Ashlee; one brother Jack Naturkach of Winnipeg; four sisters, Annie (John) Bzowy of Stony Mountain, MB, Mary Bereziuk of Winnipeg; Wilma Cook of Oshawa, ON, and Dorothy Davidiuk of Winnipeg; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Bill Happychuk (May 1953) and her second husband Myroslaw Lewandiwsky (August 1994) parents, Peter and Tillie Naturkach; and brothers, Mike, Nick and Billy. Mom was born on a farm north of Sundown, MB on February 15, 1917. She married Dad (Bill) Happychuk in 1934. They farmed until 1950 when Dads ill health forced them to move off the farm and to purchase a store in Sundown. Mom was extremely hardworking her entire life making a living on the farm and running the store business in Sundown as well as becoming the primary breadwinner when Dad passed away in 1953. She remarried in 1955 to Myroslaw Lewandiwsky and took responsibility to raise two more sons. She was a lifetime and dedicated member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Sundown and the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League, being president for many years. She was very devout and never missed church services. Her high voice became a familiar sound in the Sundown choir right up to the time of her passing. Her passing will be a great loss to the entire South East Ukrainian Catholic community. She loved her family and friends and took pride in all the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She very much enjoyed the outdoors and her gardening skills were well known, usually having the earliest fresh vegetable harvest in the area. Her pickles and canned vegetables were second to none. Mom also had a passion for card playing and thanks to Auntie Annie Kraynyk, never missed a Bingo. She will be missed by all her Bingo friends. The family would like to thank all her friends in Sundown who helped her and allowed her to live an active life right up to her passing. Prayers will be held at the Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sundown on Thursday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Ihor Royik and Rev. Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Ronnie and Harvey Hirschfield, Ryan and Crystal Happychuk, Dano and Gina Lewandiwsky.
