Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURENCE A. SMITH After a brief illness, Laurence Smith passed away on March 5, 2002, at the Grace General Hospital, at the age of 82 years. Laurence was born in Winnipeg, MB, on March 20, 1919. He married Mary Richardson in 1939. He was in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War and stationed in Halifax, NS. After the war he came back to Winnipeg and worked for C.N. Rail until his retirement in 1982. Laurence had many activities that he enjoyed in his retiring years: some of them being carpet bowling, darts and cribbage. He was a member of the Rockwood Legion. He also went on many outings with the Crescentwood Community Centre. He was predeceased by his wife Mary in 1986 and his son Alfred in 1968, as well as brother Gordon. He leaves to mourn his passing daughters, Pat Smith and Rosemary Ragot (Leo) and his son Laurence (Susan) as well as his grandchildren, Troy Smith (Andrea), Laura Winsby (Chris), Terry Ragot (Paul), Emily and Devin Kiely-Smith; his great-grandchild Justin Winsby; and longtime friend Elsie Winchell. They will all miss him greatly. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9 in the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. Reception will be held at the Rockwood A.N.A.F. Unit #303, 341 Wilton St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Laurence to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6.
