After a valiant struggle with a lengthy illness, Don left his loved ones at age 66 to be with the Lord. Don was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Lea Erickson, and his beloved wife Wanda Erickson. He leaves to mourn his passing his sister Dolores Johnson (Al), Lac du Bonnet; brother Brian (Mary Beth) Erickson, Thompson; his beloved children, Dan Erickson (Lillian), Edmonton, David Erickson (Maria), Winnipeg, Robert Erickson (Sheryl), Winnipeg, Audrey McIntyre (Blaine), Edmonton, Ken Erickson (Desiree), Edmonton, Kendra Alleyn (Mike), Gimli, Heather Miller (Mike), Edmonton, and Robert Helgason, Gimli. Don will also be sadly missed by his 13 grandchildren who he dearly loved; his nieces and nephews, of whom he was very fond; his many cousins; and all the special friends he made over the years. Dons memory will be dearly cherished in the hearts of so many. Don was born and raised in Winnipeg, and over the years had a varied career. But most notably, he enjoyed the last 19 years of his professional life with the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, before retiring in Gimli. Don was a very kind, caring, and humble man, whose sincerity and love touched the lives of many, in both his professional and personal life. In accordance with Dons wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and tea honouring Dons memory will be held on Tuesday, March 12, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Gimli Legion Hall, 1466th St., South Beach, Gimli. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends and family desire, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the home care nurses and aids in Gimli, and the doctors and nursing staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital and the Betel Nursing Home in Gimli. DEAR LORD Put Your arms around Don Hold him in Your tender care Make up to him for all he suffered And all he had to bear. He went through so much in silence His spirit didnt bend. He faced his pain with courage Until the very end. It broke our hearts to lose him But he didnt go alone For part of us went with him The day You called him home. Donnie, although our hearts are full of sorrow, we are comforted to know you are at peace with your precious Wanda. We will always love you.
