ALASTAIR GILLIES Passed away February 27, 2002, at the age of 80. Born in Winnipeg and raised an an only child by Marie Gillies (nee Wright). Alastair is deeply mourned by his wife Christine; his former wife Marjorie; his children, Ian (Helene Poirier), Marsie (Don Vince), Colin (Sophie Jong), and Nancy (Paul Sawyer) and his grandchildren, Ainsley, Courtney, Marie-Paule, Sydney, Evan, Elisabeth, Claire and Kayla. Alastair lived a full and productive life. He retired from his position as General Manager of Transportation and Distribution with Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting in 1985. In the 1950s and 60s he held several executive positions with the Kinsmen Club of Canada helping that organization contribute to the community. In 1989, Alastair and Christine moved to a small farm near Caledonia where they took great joy in their horses, pets and abundant wildlife. Alastair was a physically graceful man who loved nature and all its many glories. The family appreciates the help of the caring staff at the Henderson Hospital Intensive Care Unit in Hamilton. A service to celebrate Alastairs life was held on Saturday, March 2 at St. Pauls Anglican Church, Caledonia, ON. In his memory, donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy Canada or a local humane society chapter.
