Surrounded by her devoted husband of 60 years Douglas; her sisters, Winnie (Frank) Thoresby and Hazel Sinclair; daughter Dianne (John) Betton; son Gerry (Leda) Halliday; grandchildren, Carla (Dana) Tadla, Allison (Kevin) Betton, Jonathon Betton and Bronwyn Halliday; and her precious great-granddaughter Casey Catherine Tadla. Ruby was predeceased by her father Harry Cadle; her mother Florence Cadle; her brother Gerald Cadle; and brother-in-law Bill Sinclair. An Elmwood girl, Ruby attended George V School. She met her future husband, Douglas, while riding The Moonlight Special train from Grand Beach on Labour Day 1939. Ruby and Doug were married December 6, 1941, while Doug was serving with the RCAF. After being stationed in Claresholm, AB, they returned to Winnipeg and settled in Dougs neighbourhood of Fort Rouge where they lived for the next 60 years with the exception of three years in Edmonton, AB, and two years in St. Catherines, ON, while Doug was working for Dana Corporation. For many years Ruby and Doug have generously shared their cherished cottage "Silver Bush" at Grand Beach with family and friends. Ruby was an avid bowler at the Park Alleys and was an active volunteer with the Childrens Hospital Book Market. We wish to thank our family doctor of many years, Dr. Craig Hildahl and St. Boniface General Hospital Medicine Unit 5A and the Palliative Care Unit for their compassion and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rubys memory may be sent to the St. Boniface General Hospital and Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 9Z9 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
