NETTIE MARKS (nee KULYK) Peacefully, with family by her bedside on Friday, March 8, 2002, Nettie passed away at The Vernon Hospice House in Vernon, BC at the age of 71 years. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband Robert Sr. and their 10 children, Robert, Bryan (Cheryl), Kathleen, Patricia, Daniel (Julia), Sharon (Earl), David, Richard (Susanne), William (Sheri), and Gregory (Jen) her grandchildren, Damien, Bryanna, Shane, Karl, Bryce, Caitlin, Jesse, Dylan, Brendan, Mathew, R.J., and Patrick. Nettie is also survived by her sister Kay Chajkowski, and cousins, Nick and Mike Kulyk of Toronto, ON; cousins, Paul and John Slota and family; brother-in-law Mickie Malko her best friend Frankie; and many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. Nettie was predeceased by her daughter Beverly; son Sean; her siblings, Anne Galka, John Kulyk, and Mary Malko; and parents, Katherine and Michael Kulyk. Nettie was born on September 26, 1930 in Oakbank, MB and grew up there. She was a member of the baseball team known as the Red Devils and was invited to a reunion of the team last fall. Nettie married Robert (Bob) Eugene Marks on October 14, 1950. They settled in Transcona where Nettie worked for many years and made many friends. She was a dedicated friend and hardworker. She was known as mom to many of her childrens friends. To relax Nettie was known to crochet beautiful pieces and share them with family and friends. She also loved to garden. The family would like to thank the staff at the Vernon Hospice House for the wonderful, gentle care they provided to her. Although her illness was unexpected and her decline rapid, Nettie showed great determination, courage and maintained her sense of humour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Netties memory to Hospice House, 3506 27th Ave., Vernon, BC V1T 1S4. Cremation and a private family funeral has taken place at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home in Vernon, BC. A memorial service will take place in Transcona, MB at St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day St., on Thursday March 21 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.
