CHARLES MURRAY 1921 - 2002 Peacefully, with his loving family by his side, Charles Murray passed away at the Victoria Hospital on March 13, 2002, at the age of 80. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 57 years, Wilma; son John (Valerie) daughters, Wendy (Frank Jansen) and Pat (Rudy Muns) grandchildren, Gail, Brian and Carolyn Murray, Craig, Lindsay, and Andrea Jansen, Randy and Paul Muns; Lynne Kuryk; as well as his sister Helen Spillett. Dad was born in Scotland and came to Winnipeg when he was six years old. After serving with the Air Force in the Second World War he was employed with Eatons for 40 years until his retirement in 1977. He was a past-president of Fort Garry Legion No. 90 and served as president for District Command No. 4. Through his dedicated service to the Legion he received a life membership and the distinctive honour of the Palm Leaf. Through the years Dad enjoyed a wide variety of sports including baseball, bowling, curling, and golf and in his later years his greatest joy was summers spent with friends and family at Victoria Beach. He was more than a devoted husband, father, and grandfather: he was regarded as a friend that all could turn to. "His sense of humour and unique wit will always be remembered" Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
