BRIAN WILLIAM GORDON PAPINEAU Brian passed away peacefully March 10, 2002 surrounded by family and friends at Cottonwoods Extended Care facility in Kelowna after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons disease and cancer. The middle son of Robert and Gladys Papineau, Brian was born October 2, 1939 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Brian attended Gordon Bell High School and often joked that the only reason he returned for grade 12 was to play football. A graduate of the CA program at the University of Manitoba, Brian followed the oil boom and moved to Calgary in 1965, where he met and married Phyllis. He worked for Standard Oil (Chevron) as a chartered accountant until 1973 when he accepted a position at Syncrude, relocating to Edmonton and later Fort McMurray. Brian was active in the community as a curler, soccer coach, church member, Toastmaster, and aspiring thespian. He reached the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve and even dabbled in provincial politics. Upon his retirement in 1993, Brian and Phyllis moved to the Okanagan where he remained active despite the onset of Parkinsons. Brian was Past Master of Trepanier Lodge No. 83 in Peachland and a member of the Penticton Lodge of Perfection. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Gladys Papineau. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis; his son David and wife Sandra Stewart; daughter Patricia and husband Edward Ostrowski; and son Richard; granddaughter Parker Papineau; and grandsons, Ian and Liam Ostrowski. He is also survived by his brother Robert, brother Rick and wife Noreen; sister Cheryl and husband John Warnica; and sister-in-law Doreen; nephews, Ken and Don Papineau, Brett and Mark Papineau, Kyle Warnica; and niece Nicole Warnica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation (Attention: Cottonwoods Extended Care/Douglas Fir Unit), 2268 Pandosy St., Kelowna, BC, V1Y 9Z9.
