Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCorrection: Date of Service MONTEZ GOWING (LOW) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother and grandmother, Montez Gowing, aged 80, on Friday, March 15, 2002. She will be deeply missed, and left with many fond memories is her daughter Dianne (Jim) Harley and son Darcy (Elisabeth) Gowing and her grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Harley, and Courtney and Keith Gowing. Montez was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim on October 23, 1994; her parents; two brothers and two sisters. Montez was born in Castor, AB, on October 20, 1921. She was the youngest of six children of Juliette and DuAne Low. She met Jim in Calgary, where he was based with the RCAF during the Second World War and they were married July 23, 1945. They moved to Manitoba when the war was over and settled first in Belmont, which was Jims hometown and then moved to Brandon in 1949. Montez was employed with the Brandon Sun for 31 years and retired in 1986. While raising her family and working full-time, she also managed to find time to be very active in the Girl Guide Movement, Toastmistresses and her Union. Montez was very talented and loved to sew, knit, crochet, petit point and bake treats for family and friends. Weekends and holidays were spent at the cottage at Pelican Lake, where she liked nothing better than to spend time with her grandchildren. A celebration of Montezs life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 107 Queens Ave. E., Brandon, MB. A reception will follow and interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Belmont, MB, at approximately 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Montezs name to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, 790 Bay St., Suite 1000, Toronto, ON, M5G 1N8 or to a charity of ones choice. A special note of appreciation to Dr. Dabrowska and staff at CancerCare St. Boniface, Dr. Gwen Kalansky, the Home Care personnel, and the staff on 3 East at Riverview Health Centre, all of whom looked after mom with extreme kindness and dignity during her lengthy battle with cancer. Montezs family would also like to thank all those friends and family who wrote letters, made meals, telephoned, sent flowers and dropped by for a visit during this difficult time. Their love and support is greatly appreciated. Brockie Donovan in charge of arrangements, 204-727-0694.
