HERBERT (HERB) DENNIS LINK It is with heavy hearts we announce the untimely passing of Herbert Dennis Link. Herb died very suddenly at home surrounded by his loving wife and family, on Monday, March 18, 2002. Herbs memory will be cherished by his beloved wife and best friend of 41 years, Blanche; daughter Jennifer (Wayne) Okaluk; son Curtis (Carla) daughter Heather (Rick) Kubas; grandchildren, Amanda, Tiffany, Kaitlin, Kennedy, Mitchell and Joshua; his sister Leona (Terrace, BC) brothers, Gerry (Christina) (Kelowna, BC), Wayne (Joan) and Connor (Evelyn) many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Herb was predeceased by his father and mother, Frederick 1978 and Elizabeth 1987. Herb was born August 26, 1932 in Carnduff, SK. At an early age his family moved to Steinbach where he attended school. In 1944 the family moved to Kirkfield Park (St. James). His first job was with the Canadian Wheat Board. Always looking to better himself he kept upgrading his education and challenging himself with different jobs. After working for a short time for Lons Stoneworks, Herb realized he had a passion for granite and a dream to own his own business. In 1966 Westwood Memorials was born from his home in Kirkfield Park. On March 15, 1967 with six markers and three memorials, Herb moved Westwood Memorials to its present location in West St. Paul. He never considered what he did as work and that was reflected by the many, many customers that became his friends. Herb never lost sight of fun. He was always athletic and was an avid hockey player from his teens right up to the day before his death when he scored the winning goal. Many of his team mates had been together since 1978. Herb loved magic and was a longtime member of Ring 40 and Circle 7 Magic Clubs. He could always make you smile by pulling a coin out of your ear. Herb, Blanche and their family enjoyed many winter vacations and share many memories. Herb always took the time for friends, family and even strangers. He had a compelling urge to see others live a fulfilling life. It made Herb very proud that he and his family were members of The Lighthouse Church. Each Sunday we were all together supporting each other and growing in our faith. A celebration of Herbs life will be held on Monday, March 25 at 12:00 noon at Eastview Community Church, 3500 DeVries Ave., near Henderson Highway and the North Perimeter. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Sharing of memories and viewing on Sunday, March 24, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Flowers gratefully declined.
