INA LYON Ina Lyon passed away peacefully at 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, 21 March 2002 at Red River Place in Selkirk. Ina was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 14 February 1904, the daughter of Philip Henderson Lyon and Christina Lyon (nee Glass). She came to Canada with her family ca. 1908 and settled in Winnipeg. Following the death of her father, Ina went to work to help support her family. In 1920, at the age of 16, Ina began what was to be a long career with the Hudsons Bay Company. She initially worked in the old Bay store on Main Street before moving to the new store in 1926. Most of her service was spent in the Credit Department, where she was known for the "very appropriate way she had of telling everyone and sundry off when it was required". When Ina retired in 1969 she had completed 49 years of full time service with the Company. Following her retirement, she continued to work part-time for the Bay for another 16 years. Her combined service of 65 years is likely one of the longest in the Companys history. She was awarded the HBC Long Service Medal in 1935. Ina loved visiting with her family, looking after her grand-nephews and nieces, going to the movies and theatre. Some of her family were involved in Vaudeville and Ina used to reminisce fondly of those long-ago days. She will be remembered, by her many nieces and nephews, for the incredible generosity and kindness she showed them over many years. She will be sadly missed. Ina was predeceased by her parents, Philip (1919) and Christina (1966), sisters and brothers, Jeannie, Jim (1967), Philip Jr. (Babe) (1982), Isabel Mitchell (1985), Joe (1988), and nephew Cliff Mitchell (1992). Ina is survived by nieces and nephews, Marlene Tyler (Gerry), Murray Lyon (Joyce), Jill Chwan (Brian), Bronwyn Dyck (Tony), Zan (Carol) and sisters-in-law, Alice Mitchell, Evelyn Lyon, and Verna Lyon. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Red River Place nursing home for their compassion and care. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance at Aubrey Street. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
