Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH BERNICE SCARFE On February 24, 2002, Edith Bernice Scarfe passed away peacefully in White Rock, B.C. at the age of 88. Mom is lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary (Ed) and her grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) and John. Also surviving are her sisters, Gladys White of Philadelphia, PA, Doris Ballentine of Calgary, AB, and Florence Kirkham of Richmond, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, on April 26, 1998. Mom was born in Winnipeg on June 9, 1913, and grew up in West Kildonan. She loved sports and excelled in speedskating and in baseball as a pitcher. After marrying Dad in 1938, they moved to Pickle Lake, ON, as Dad had found work in the Central Patricia Mines. They had many funny and fond memories of their time there living in a log cabin. In 1950, they moved into their new home on Balfour Avenue in Winnipeg and were soon after flooded out and forced to flee to the family cottage in Gimli for a brief time. For the next 13 years, Mom was active in her community of Riverview, enjoying bowling, curling, golfing, sewing, and volunteering. In the late 1950s, Mom and Dad bought a cottage at Sandy Hook where they summered for almost 40 years. Mom loved being at the lake and spent most of her time outdoors. Mom and Dad especially loved playing tennis and badminton and having bonfires with the kids. In 1964, Mom and Dad moved to Victoria Crescent in St. Vital and Mom lived there until August, 2000, when she moved to White Rock, BC. Moms later years were made special because of her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Mom, you are missed and thought of every day and it will always be so. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Ediths name to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. At Moms request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private family memorial in Sandy Hook, MB.
