Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMINNIE SLIKKER (nee BEENS) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, sister and grandmother following a short and very courageous battle with cancer. With her devoted husband by her side, Mom went to be with the Lord and Saviour on March 23, 2002. Minnie is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Dirk; her children, Jane (Cecil) Dubay, Marilyn Barron, Debbie (Karl) Sorge, Dirk, Mark (Marion), Catherine and son-in-law Tim Barron; her dear grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michelle, Patrick, Leah, Ryan, Chelsea, Kurtis, Jessica and Sarah; as well as her dear sister Arlene (John) Van de Hoef of Aylmer, ON. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Tryntje Beens; and her brother Jacob. Minnie was born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on November 17, 1939. She immigrated to Winnipeg with her family in 1951. She and Dirk were married on November 28, 1958. Their six children and numerous foster children kept her busy for many years. During this time, she managed to further her education, earning a certificate enabling her to become the Activity Director at Oakview Nursing Home. She thoroughly enjoyed working and developing friendships with both staff and residents. Growing flowers, watching and feeding birds, picking wild blueberries and playing cards with her friends and family brought her much enjoyment throughout her life. Left to cherish her memories will be her family, many friends, brother/sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Green Acres Lane. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. in Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave., with Pastor Bill Tuininga officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Minnies name to the Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 9Z9. The family would like to thank our many friends and relatives for the love and support they have shown throughout Minnies illness, but most especially Tante Hennie and Oom Leen for their unwavering support and kindness. Special thanks to Dr. F. Crow, Dr. R. Lotocki and staff at the Cancer Clinic and the caring staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. "Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
