JOHN FORSYTH SR. We are sad to announce the passing of John Forsyth Sr. of Eriksdale, MB on March 23, 2002 in the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Nipigon, ON, at the age of 84. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. John was born in Eriksdale in 1917 to Annie and John Forsyth. He remained there for the duration of his life with the exception of six years that he spent serving his country overseas. He met the love of his life - Iris "Jeannie" Campbell - in 1951 and married her in 1952. They moved out to Dog Town to a farm where they raised cattle and five children. It was on this farm that he fulfilled his dream of living off the land. In 1980 he sold the family farm to his boys and moved to town. John was an honest family man with simple beliefs. He treated others the way he would want to be treated, always looking a man in the eye when he shook his hand. Rumour has it that in his younger days he was quite the hockey and baseball player. He continued this love for sports by coaching various teams. His retirement years were spent driving out to the farm to help the boys in the summer, watching Hockey Night in Canada in the winter, the odd trip with "Jeannie", and attending many special family gatherings. John has left behind his loving wife and best friend Iris, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage; his children, Naren (and Clive) Davies of Nipigon, Campbell (and Molly) Forsyth, Jay (and Leslie) Forsyth, Jody Forsyth (and Brent Oversby), all of Eriksdale, and Kathy (and Paul) Buckley of Dorion, ON; his grandchildren, Tina and Andy, Aaron, Kaelene, Rob and Tanya, C.J., Rhiannon, Dana Jo and Clayton, Lindsey, Logan Jerrica, Ben, Sammi and Abbi; his great-grandchildren, Chantal, Nick, Austin and Hope. He has also left behind his loving sisters and brothers, Emma Mills, Jim (and Kay) Forsyth, Art (and Gladys) Forsyth, and brother-in-law Larry Whitney, all from Eriksdale, Nan (and Len) Elfenson of Winnipeg; plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Whitney; nephew Allan Forsyth; brothers-in-law, Bill and Jack Campbell; sister-in-law Shirley Garrioch; and niece Heather Christophersen. According to Johns wishes, cremation has taken place and a family gathering will take the place of a public funeral. Friends so wishing may make donations to the Al Forsyth Foundation, in care of Sandy Heroux, Box 217, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0. Arrangements were in the care of Elliott Funeral Home Ltd., Nipigon, ON.
