NICK SAFRUK The family of Nick Safruk wish to announce his sudden passing on March 24, 2002 at the Vita District Health Centre. He was predeceased by his wife Wasylka (Lena) on August 17, 1989; stepson Wilbert (Bill) Kosteniuk; parents, Eli and Wasylyna; brothers, John, Mike and Alex; as well as sisters, Kay, Mary, Lena and Nellie. Nick is survived by daughters, Bernice (Les) Bleue, Shirley Melanson, Alice (Stafford) Yurkiw, Nick (June) Katchurowsky; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Florence), Bill (Sadie) foster-daughter Pauline Tourond. Dad loved his farm animals, was a weather reporter for Environment Canada for over 20 years (CTV), was a founding member of the Vita Credit Union Ltd., assisted several Reverend Fathers at the St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Sirko for more than 20 years. Dad was also known as the local Vet and assisted neighbours and friends with their livestock needs. He was also a part of the Foster Parents program. A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the Vita District Health Centre, the Vita Personal Care Home, as well as Sandi Klassen and the home care workers for their care and support of Dad. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, followed by funeral service on Thursday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Sirko, with the Very Rev. Fr. Miron Pozniak officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the Diabetes Foundation or a charity of choice.
