Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY DITTON On Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Mary Ditton, beloved mother of Edith Olynyk and Gay Martin, peacefully and surrounded by love, went to her eternal home - 10 days short of her 99th birthday. Mary was born on April 1, 1903 in Versac, Hungary. After being orphaned at an early age, she lived (and was brought up in) a convent. She attended mass daily in the convent and throughout her life when she was able. Church was always very important to her. At a tender age of 15, she married Anton Ditton and they had three children, a son Joey and two daughters, Edith and Gay. She was an excellent baker and cook in her early years, and enjoyed preparing many different fancy pastries and cakes. On May 3, 1929, the family immigrated to Canada, landing in Halifax. They later settled in Winnipeg. Mary lived in several small communities in Manitoba throughout her life and made friends wherever she lived. Her last year was spent close to her family in Portage. She was always a generous and loving person, and enjoyed eating out with others and her family. She especially enjoyed chicken and Orange Crush, and chocolate (which was always shared and offered to others before she ate it herself). Mary was predeceased by her infant son and her husband. Besides her two daughters, she will be fondly remembered by five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Immediate cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank all the Lions Manor staff from all the departments, but especially Sky View (East), for your exceptional and loving care given to our mother and grandmother. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc., 24 - 9th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3V4. The Omega Funeral Home in care of the arrangements. Friends may leave a message and sign the register book at our web site www.legacy.com "Where life stories live on". Rest comes at length; though life be long and dreary, The day must dawn, and darksome night be past; Faiths journey ends in welcomes to the weary, And heaven, the hearts true home, will come at last. Memories are treasures, no one can steal, Heartaches are something no one can heal: Some may forget you now that youre gone, But we will remember, no matter how long.
