Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMELVIN OLIVER LOCKEN Peacefully on March 25, 2002 at the Charleswood Care Centre Mel rejoined his beloved wife, Isabel. In addition to Isabel, he was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Gilbert; brothers, Russell, Albert and Lloyd and sisters, Jeannette, Vivian and Audrey. He is survived by brothers, Roger and Douglas; sisters, Glennis and Joan; his children, Ilona (Dave) Guss, Mel (Jan) Locken, Linda (Ron) Oleski and Sharon; his grandsons, Kyle (Christine), Byron (friend Karla), Donovan and Matthew. The oldest of 11 siblings, Dad was born in Hyas, SK in 1915. During the depression, he worked as a groom, log-skidder and boatman on Lake of the Woods. He served his country in the Second World War and after the war settled in Charleswood with his young family. He became a master painter and his precision and attention to detail were well known. Dad will always be remembered for his love of Deacon Lake, a quick game of show down after playing cards with his brothers and the ability to magically produce a stick of gum or candy for any child. The relationships Dad had with the special people in his life meant the world to him. Some of the relationships were with family members, some with friends but all were unique and cherished. He will be sadly missed by all but especially his devoted children and beloved grandsons. Thanks to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, the home care workers and staff at the Westhaven and Charleswood Care Centre. Special thanks to Sue Erickson from Home Care for her extra effort on Dads behalf and also to Dads VON nurse Zah. At Dads request a private family interment has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, 500 - 55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1L8 or Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3.
