Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANORA KATHLEEN LOVELL-SIMONS (nee McNaughton) It is with deep sorrow that the family of Eleanora Kathleen Simons announces her passing at the age of 81 years on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre. Eleanora is survived by her loving children; daughters, Margaret, Aurelie and Joan; son Vernon; grandchildren, Ruth, Joan, Tom, Shelleen, Kathleen, Norm, Cherilyn, Jenifer and Christopher; six great-grandchildren and one sister Margaret. Her husband Vernon; her parents; a sister Pat; and a brother Jim predeceased her. Eleanora was born in Winnipeg on August 4, 1920 and has been a lifelong resident of Manitoba, attending school in the Fort Rouge area. During Eleanoras years in Winnipeg she was very involved in Shaughnessy United Church as a CGIT Leader, member of the choir and other church activities. Eleanora not only found time to raise four children but also worked to help support the family during the Second World War at McDonald Douglas Aircraft, and after the War at various jobs including the Manitoba Hospital Commission. In the late 1960s Eleanora returned to school in Brandon to obtain a certificate in Welfare Service Technology and also a certificate in Social Welfare at Assiniboine College. Upon completion, Eleanora found employment with the Manitoba Society for Crippled Children and Adults and continued her employment there until her retirement in 1982. During her leisure hours Eleanora took courses in Paper Tole and later on she taught Tole classes. Eleanora enjoyed music, reading and dabbling in poetry for which she received a Certificate of Merit. Eleanora enjoyed her retirement years working with Vernon tending their small acreage in Lockport. Eleanoras family would like to thank the staff at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on Pembina Highway for the care and attention they provided during her residence there. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 3 at 1:30 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway with Reverend Jack Ballantine-Dickson of Shaughnassey United Church officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception also to be held in Thomson Funeral Chapels immediately following the service.
