KATHERINE KARPIAK (nee KARPO) After a lengthy illness, on Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Riverview Health Centre, Kay Karpiak passed away at the age of 80. Kay was predeceased by her husband Stanley. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, daughter Patricia (John) LEcuyer, son Alan (Marni) all of Winnipeg, daughter Marcia (Gerry) Geoffrey of Calgary; grandchildren, Shannon (John Paul) Saxon, Marcie (Paul) Hemstreet, Kathryn Buskell (fiance Kevin Korbaylo) all of Calgary; great-grandchildren, Katie and Nicholas Saxon and special friend and sister-in-law Mary Olchowy. Kay was born in Austria on July 25, 1921. She came to Canada at the age of six. Kay retired from Eatons after many years of service. She was a loving and devoted mother who always put her family first. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. She will be fondly remembered for her thoughtfulness, her generosity and her words of wisdom. Kay spent many happy hours with her children at the lake and at her second home in Calgary. She was a gracious hostess and wonderful cook and there was always room for one more at her table. Kay enjoyed flowers and will be remembered for her special skills with anything that grew. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Private interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kays memory to Palliative Care at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4. The family wishes to thank Kays family and friends who came to visit and spent time with her during her illness. They lifted her spirits immensely.
