BENJAMIN JOSEPH PUCHNIAK Benjamin Joseph Puchniak, aged 88, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at St. Boniface General Hospital. Ben leaves Rose, his loving and devoted wife of 60 years; his four children, Clare (Therese) Puchniak, Betty Morrow (Don), Robert (Margaretmary) Puchniak and Dorothy McLeod; his 10 grandchildren, Chris (Sandy) and Greg (Shawna) Puchniak; Shawn (Karen) and Dean Morrow; Rob (Katherine), Allison, Megan, Michael, Mary-Alex and Caitlin Puchniak; and his seven great-grandchildren, Melissa, Gillian, Dana, Luke and Hailey Morrow; Matthew Morrow and Benjamin Puchniak. Ben was predeceased by his three brothers, Joseph, William and Rev. Stanley, O.M.I., and four sisters, Stephanie (in infancy), Rose Skretkowicz, Frances Stephen and Mary Jaworski. He is survived by two sisters, Jean Smith of Edmonton and Angela McDougall of Winnipeg. He was born in Winnipeg on July 10, 1913 to Aniela and Wojciech. His parents had immigrated to Canada from Budzanow, Poland in 1905. Ben received his education at St. Ignatius School and St. Pauls High School. An accomplished musician from an early age, he played a variety of instruments including clarinet, saxophone and violin. He went on to become a tool-and-die designer with MacDonald Aircraft and Bristol Aerospace, before retiring in 1982. His favourite pastime was operating an amateur radio station under the call letters VE4BP, now a silent key. The family would like to extend thanks to the kind and compassionate staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Prayers will be said on Thursday, April 4, at 6:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Church, Corydon Ave. and Stafford St., on Friday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Joseph C. Johnson, S.J. and Rev. Msgr. Stan Jaworski officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
