DENA ALLUM February 29, 1920 - March 29, 2002 Peacefully, in the early morning hours of Friday, March 29, 2002, Dena Allum, after a difficult struggle with Alzheimers Disease, passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge. Dena leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband Bernard (Brownie), with whom she shared 54 wonderful years of marriage; and her four children, son Brad (Judy), Christopher and Kelly, son Barry (Joan), Barrys children, Sean and Michelle (Glen), Jasmine and Holly, son Kerry (Pat), Ashley and Justin, and son Jeff (Jacqueline). Dena was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Krall; sisters, Nance, Mary, Margaret, Anne, Erna, Doreen; and brother Ernie. Surviving siblings are sister Betty, brother Bob (Mickey) in Winnipeg and sister Gerrie (Lloyd) of Eugene, OR; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dena was born in Gilbert Plains, MB on February 29, 1920 and as a child, moved to Winnipeg with her family, where she was educated, worked and married her husband, Brownie on September 20, 1947. Dena decided to leave her job and devote her life to raising her family, which she accomplished successfully with love, warmth and caring. As her sons married she welcomed their wives into the family and treated them as her own daughters and gained their love with her kindness and generosity. She was thrilled with the birth of her first grandchildren, Sean, whom she loved to take to Dows (McDonalds) and her little "candy apple" Michelle. Dena showed all her grandchildren great affection and took special care in choosing just the right cards, gifts and treats for them. They all knew that "Ma" had suckers in the kitchen cupboard and chocolates in the linen closet. Chris, Kelly and Ashley will treasure their memories of the Saturday morning breakfast ritual at what came to be known as "Denas Diner". We all had fun with those grapes! Dena loved the holidays, especially Christmas, when she meticulously prepared delicious dinners and created memories for each and every one of us. This wasnt hard because she was a marvelous cook and decorator. Dena and Brownie enjoyed spending time at their cottage at Lester Beach, and worked hard for many years to make it a comfortable retreat for their family and friends. There were many happy times when the cottage was being built and family members and special friends came out to lend a hand. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff at Fred Douglas Lodge who gave such excellent care to Dena over the past two years. Your kindness and compassion has meant so much. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their comfort and support during this difficult time. We love you and miss you Ma, more than words can express. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace dear mother. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation can be made to Fred Douglas Lodge. Cremation has taken place and an informal celebration of Denas life will take place on Saturday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
