DONALD EDWARD GREGG On Saturday, March 30, 2002, at his home, Don Gregg, aged 55 years, passed away. Wife Ruth; sons, Andrew and Chris; mother Margaret; sister Eileen Findlay (Greg) brother Gordon Gregg (Lee) nieces; and goddaughters, Emily and Stephanie Findlay; nieces, Kaitlyn and Jaqueline Gregg; his only remaining aunt Emerald Milne and numerous other relatives will miss his humour, dedication, support and compassion. His father Edward Carson Gregg and numerous aunts and uncles predeceased him. Don was employed with Winnipeg Videon for thirty-two years, where he befriended the entire staff, even those with whom he had brief contact. He undertook many projects, which kept him in touch with the latest developments in the industry. This brought him much satisfaction. Don felt most comfortable outdoors. His attachment to all things natural drew him to many of the activities in which he took pleasure. He awoke early each morning so as to take long walks in Assiniboine Park. On the weekends, he often went out of the city to explore nature, and never ceased to discover unique elements about the land he knew so well. He was most happy when sharing the things he treasured most with others, so he often brought friends and family with him to Birds Hill Park, Seven Sisters and Lockport amongst other places. When he couldnt bring others along with him he took photographs and jumped at the opportunity to show people the beauty of the landscape that surrounds us. His love of photography extended to all settings and recently he was rarely seen without his camera. When not with nature, Don participated avidly in the community. His love of soccer brought him in touch with droves of other people who shared his passion. He spent long hours during election time volunteering for the NDP and never hesitated to discuss or inform people of what events he thought were right or wrong. Above all, we can remember that Don helped people, often to the point of disregarding himself. He was most content when being selfless and while attention was focused on him, he was at a loss. He would give all he could and refuse to acknowledge all that he had done. Warm thanks to all those who reflected Dons compassion, making the past, present and future easier for Don and those who love him. Exceptional thanks are extended to Stephen Washen and Southside Group. A Celebration of Dons life will take place on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. Donations for benches to be placed in Dons favourite parks may be made to Assiniboine Credit Union branches. The Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Well here I am 17 years after his untimely passing thinking of Don and how much I miss his smile and the interesting conversations we would have while we both worked at Winnipeg Videon on Stafford, and later when we all moved to Scurfield Blvd. I’ve recently retired after a long career with Videon and Shaw, and as I look back on that career it’s colleagues like Don that I really miss and find myself thinking about... His sense of humour and warmth was engaging, and I remember him to this day with great respect. I played in a slo-pitch tournament with him once and man could he throw a ball! Like many I could not believe that he was gone so soon... and I’m writing this now to tell you that all these years later he is not forgotten. May he continue to Rest In Peace... - Posted by: Jim Macgregor (Friend and co-worker) on: Jun 03, 2019
