JOHN DAROWANY With great sorrow, we announce the passing of John Darowany of Malonton, MB, aged 89 years, on April 2, 2002 at the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon. Born August 19, 1912 in Malonton, where he lived most of his life. As a young man he worked as a diamond drill operator throughout various mines in northern Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia. Later he operated a mink ranch for 17 years, winning first place in the Montreal market. Upon retirement, John took an interest in politics, campaigning for many councillors in the area. Furthermore, he actively pursued with strong determination the Dennis Lake Drainage Project. He had a gift for working with domestic and wild animals, and enjoyed working in his country yard and garden. Surviving to mourn his loss, his sister Ann Darowany, sister-in-law Ann Darowany, and brother-in-law Don Duane, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother in 1924; father in 1964; brothers, Joe in 1990, Jim in 1991, Mike in 1996; sister Olive in 1997; and nephew Michael in 1997. Prayers will be held 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 5. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m., both at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon. Interment to follow at Zbruch Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Peter Chorney will officiate. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
