KENNETH JOHNSTON May 8, 1925 - March 30, 2002 Kenneth Johnston, born on May 8, 1925 in Hull, England, passed away suddenly at his home in Nanaimo, BC. Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Mary; son Michael and daughter-in-law Isobel. During the Second World War Ken served with the 5th Parachute Brigade in N.W. Europe and S.E. Asia. In 1946 he joined the Hull City Police and served for 10 years. With his wife and son, he immigrated to Canada in 1956 and joined the Winnipeg Police Department. Ken served for 28 years and served in every rank including Chief of Police. On retiring he joined the Royal Bank of Canada as Director of Corporate Security. After six years, he then retired fully to the City of Nanaimo. Ken held the rank of Honorary Colonel with the Canadian Army. He was also awarded the Order of St. John by Her Majesty the Queen. At Kens request, cremation will take place in Nanaimo at a private family service.
