EDITH MARY BANKS Peacefully, on March 2, 2002, at Deer Lodge Centre in her 89th year, Edith, beloved daughter of the late Emma Ray and stepdaughter of the late Percy Ray; cherished aunt of Mona Ruth Easton and Dr. Bill Easton both of Toronto; and great-aunt of Megan, Melissa and Kathleen Easton, also of Toronto. Predeceased by her sister Ellen Nora (Nell) Easton. Edith came to Canada with her mother and sister in 1921. Born in Wimbledon, England, she resided in Winnipeg for the remainder of her life. She was the personal secretary to Dr. P.H.T. Thorlakson, founder of the Winnipeg Clinic, for over 40 years until her retirement. She was an active member of the congregation of St. Johns Cathedral and spent much of her spare time assisting Percy Ray with the administration of the Cathedral cemetery and churchyard. Ediths life was grounded in her faith. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of 6 West at Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13 at St. Johns Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave., at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Johns Cathedral or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 would be appreciated by the family.
