R.C.M.P. ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER TOM EGGLESTONE It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Tom Egglestone on April 3, 2002, beloved husband of Marie; father of Melanie (Doug Penney) and Trent (Charlene) grandfather of Thomas and Madison Penney and Tyler Egglestone; special uncle of Jodie Woodford (Brian) and their children Aaron and Caitlen. Assistant Commissioner Egglestone was born on September 14, 1944 in Pictou, NS and joined the R.C.M.P. in January 1966. In May 1998 he assumed position of Commanding Officer "D" Division. He has received three awards: Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal (35 year, 3 Star Gold Clasp), 125 Canada Anniversary Medal and the Serving Brother Order of St. Johns of Jerusalem Medal. Tom will be remembered for his sense of fairness, compassion and integrity. He was a strong proponent of community based policing. He led an active lifestyle and had a love of golfing, fishing with his son and above all his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. Friends wishing to express their condolences may call to Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Sunday, April 7 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 8 at 12:00 Noon at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Donations in memory of Tom may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2221 Yonge St., Suite 601, Toronto, ON, M4S 2B4 or to the R.C.M.P.
